Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation for Gum Recession

A few weeks ago I introduced you to a new technique for treating gum recession with less pain. It’s called Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation and I am now certified to perform this gentle procedure. Read here for the full blog post that explains the procedure and how in most cases it can replace the old method that involves cutting, suturing and grafting.  This minimally invasive treatment was recently featured on “The Doctors” TV show and the inventor and my instructor, Dr. John Chao, introduced the audience to a patient of his and showed us how he helped her receding gums. Click on the link below to go to our YouTube page for the video. I hope that after you watch this, you will see that you too, or someone you love, can have the same excellent results that Rocio did on this video, all scalpel free, suture free, and graft free.

What is gum recession?

As a reminder gum recession refers to the loss of gum tissue along the gumline which can happen as a result of periodontal disease such as gingivits, our natural aging process, brushing too hard, using a hard bristled tooth brush, and smoking and tobacco use.  If you look at the picture below, this is what receding gums look like:

When gums recede the root portion of the tooth becomes exposed. This is shown in the picture above by the yellow part of the upper tooth by the gumline.  When the root is exposed like that it leaves it open to tooth decay on the gumline and below it. Healthy gums are very important for a healthy mouth, so treating gum recession is a necessity.
Traditionally, gum recession is treated by harvesting tissue from the palate of your mouth, cutting your gums and suturing the harvested tissue underneath it to the receding area, usually referred to as a connective tissue graft. It will take about a week or two for your mouth to heal from the wounds. As the video above shows, Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation technique is minimally invasive.
